Maia Watson grew up immersed in triathlon royalty. One of her earliest baby pictures shows her chewing on Simon Whitfield's 2000 Olympic gold medal—Whitfield was coached by her dad, Lance Watson, an Olympic coach and former CEO of Triathlon Canada. With a mother who's a 19-time national running champion and former triathlete, high-performance sport became normalized for Maia from day one. After a successful varsity running career at McGill University, where she earned a degree in Environmental Studies, she transitioned to triathlon and has been checking all the boxes toward her professional dream ever since.
For Maia, hard work matters more than outcome, and finding joy in sport is everything. In 2024, she burst onto the 70.3 circuit with overall victories at Victoria and Oregon, posting the fastest run split of the day in Salem with an astonishing 1:26 half marathon. When she's not training in Victoria, she works as Director of Marketing at LifeSport Coaching while chasing her professional license. With nature, nurture, and relentless dedication on her side, Maia is racing smarter and faster with every event.
